About Us
The Honor Guard of Dundalk Post 38 American Legion is a guard of honor formed within the post. The Guard consists of a select and hand picked members who are able to give and obey orders, believe in their country and Constitution, believe in their flag and democracy, and adhere to the ideals of the American Legion in it’s highest tradition. The Honor Guard represents the membership of Post 38 by attending parades, funerals, and civic affairs (both City and State) for the good of Country and the American Legion. The Guard is also comprised of members who are trained for any emergency in time of peace or war to help their fellow man in time of distress or disaster.
It is indeed a honor and a privilege to be a member of such an outstanding organization. The Guard is a group that exemplifies the highest traditions in military and peacetime operations. We are a unit that works together for the good of the American Legion and the United States of America. — Once you are a member of Post 38, you can volunteer to try out for our Honor Guard! — You may contact our Honor Guard at 410-288-2297.

A Sample of the Services our Honor Guard Provide

Funeral & Burial Honors
When a fellow Legion Member has been called to transfer to the Post Everlasting, at the family’s request our Honor Guard and Post Chaplain will work to make arrangements to provide appropriate honors at the funeral and/or grave site. This solemn duty is performed to recognize our fallen comrades fidelity and selfless military service to a Grateful Nation. Contact our Post Chaplain through 410-288-2297.
We suggest all veterans pre-plan for their final arrangements to ensure their wishes are documented and ease the burden on family left behind. The American Legion has a valuable pamphlet (Click Here) that helps answer some of these issues.

Memorial Day & Veteran's Day Ceremonies
Each year our Honor Guard participate in ceremonies to honor our Veterans and Service Members at multiple locations on Memorial and Veteran’s Day. These ceremonies are always open to the public and we encourage all to attend so that they might be reminded that the Freedom we enjoy as Americans is Never Free!

Parades and Civic Functions
Our Honor Guard take great pride in the opportunity to participate in parades such as the Dundalk 4th of July Parade and the Autumn Glory Parade held in Oakland Maryland. We also participate in Presentation of Colors for many civic functions such as opening day events for various organizations around the region. These events allow us to demonstrate the professionalism of our Honor Guard and to foster a 100% Americanism.Â
Our Honor Guard also perform retirement ceremonies for U.S. Flags which are no longer serviceable. Anyone in the community can drop off worn and no longer serviceable U.S. Flags to the Post during business ours and we will provide for honorable disposal.

American Legion Meetings and Ceremonies
Our Honor Guard also perform duties at American Legion Meetings, Posting Colors and during ceremonies to render honors to our fallen comrades who have been transferred to the Post Everlasting.  Our Honor Guard also drill twice a month to train and maintain equipment to the highest standards so they are ready anytime they are called.
