On July 30th, 2019, President Trump signed into law S.504 – “LEGION Act”.
This legislative victory for the American Legion declares that America has been in a state of war since Dec 7th 1941. This move honors 1,600 U.S. Service members who were killed or wounded during previously undeclared periods of war.
The law also opens the door for an estimated 6 million veterans to membership in the American Legion. Effective now anyone who has served honorably in the U.S. Armed Forces on active duty for at least one day on any date since December 7th, 1941 is now eligible to join the American Legion. Additionally, this larger pool of eligible veterans will open up membership opportunities for family in the Sons of the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary as well.
